Handmade Soda-Fired Chubby Gaiwan

Handmade Soda-Fired Chubby Gaiwan

$219.00

These artisanal gaiwans from Jingdezhen, China, are soda-fired to create organic glaze patterns and layered color effects. Each piece is fully glazed inside and out before firing, then exposed to soda vapor in the kiln. This process produces unique color shifts, subtle gloss-to-matte transitions, and tactile surface textures—no two gaiwans are alike.

Designed for loose-leaf and gongfu-style tea brewing, the chubby body shape offers a steady grip and a smooth, controlled pour. Medium-thick walls help maintain the ideal brewing temperature while keeping your fingers comfortably cool.

Every gaiwan is hand-thrown on the wheel, individually glazed, and soda-fired, resulting in natural variations in glaze and form that enhance its one-of-a-kind character.

It’s food safe, of course. And also dishwasher safe. However, I strongly recommend that you wash and dry it by hand, and use it gently. Please do not use on an open flame, gas or electric stove-top. And try to avoid alternating hot and cold, which could cause cracking.
